1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO
The iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO is a fantastic robot vacuum that has a variety of innovative features that make it easier to maintain than many competing models. Its automatic bin emptying is one of the most useful features we've seen in the form of a robot and it's compatible on both hard floors and carpets. The app will guide you through the entire process. It's also simple to use and set up. Another impressive feature is its ability to return to where it was when we tested it. It did this for 77 minutes on one cleaning, before running out of battery.
The i3+ EVO is different from the other robot vacuums we have tested, has a self emptying bin that automatically dumps debris into an external dirt compartment located on the base of its charging once it is fully filled. The i3+ EVO can be kept from overfilling thanks to a self-emptying container. However it must be manually empty at the end of each cleaning session. The i3+ EVO's internal dustbin holds 2.4L of waste and is more than enough to get it through several cleaning sessions before you need to replace it.
Similar to the i7, this model also uses the latest floor sensors to create maps and navigate neat rows. The i3+ EVO can only store one map, while the i7 is able to store multiple. The i7's map is used to create virtual barriers and no-go zones, but not the i3+ EVO.
The i3+ EVO is more effective of picking up surface debris compared to some other robovacs that we have reviewed, but it is not the most effective in cleaning edges and corners. It is also less gentle on furniture despite being relatively quiet. It pulled chairs away from walls, and made some collisions with the sides of our bed, and it became stuck on cords and toys during testing.
2. Black & Decker Q5 Pro
The Q5 Pro is an excellent choice, whether you are expanding your robot vacuum collection or are just beginning to get started. It packs a lot of power, smart navigation and easy automation into a slick design at a price that is affordable. It's the most affordable model for the money you can get right now and even beats the Roborock models that are more expensive in many ways.
This robot does a great job of cleaning floors with no dust and its avoidance system helps it stay clear of furniture legs and other obstacles. It also excels on carpets, and earns a high score for our navigation tests. The only drawback is that it's a little louder than other models we test and doesn't perform similarly in our user satisfaction or predicted reliability tests.
The Q5 Pro has a very large dust bin of 770ml which means you won't need to empty it as often as other 2-in-1 robots. Its 240-minute runtime is also extremely generous when compared to other models we've tried. When the battery is low, it returns automatically to its dock, where it recharges before resuming cleaning from where it was when it stopped. You can control the Q5 Pro using the app or voice commands using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
This is one of the first robots we've seen incorporate 3D mapping. That, combined with some other innovations, helps it excel in our mopping and vacuuming tests. It is possible to schedule cleanings and create no-go zones. You can also check the battery status. The app is simple to use, but it does not support Apple HomeKit; that feature is slated to be added by 2025. As of the beginning of November, Apple has updated a footnote on its website to note that this feature will be delayed until 2025. And the well-designed base station almost fully automates the cleaning process. It provides excellent obstacle avoidance and navigation.
This model utilizes an internal dToF LiDAR sensor to map your home and create efficient cleaning routes. The iMop was a winner in our navigation efficiency and coverage evaluations and was adept at eliminating obstacles, like furniture. It's also able to locate its way back to the base station which is a nice feature in the event it is unable to recharge its battery during cleaning.
The spot cleaning mode lets you to clean a specific area of your floor. It can also be programmed to follow a particular direction. This is ideal for narrow hallways or stairs.
